The Growth Of The Mobile Food Industry
The mobile food industry isn’t new, at all. Dating back to 1691, food on the go was a way of life for travelers and mining workers who routinely brought hot meals off the back of a pushcart. 1872 welcomes the first diner off the back of a horse-drawn freight wagon; this helped paved the way into the late 1990’s where ice cream trucks, portable hot dog stands and taco trucks were popping up at construction sites and more.
It wasn’t until 2008 that the mobile food industry was redefined and established, with out of work chefs feeling the pinch of the recession in The United States. The concept of food trucks was taken to a new level, with extensive and creative menus mirroring brick and mortar restaurants popping up everywhere.
Coupled with the current market’s demand for fresh, innovative and convenient food, the food truck industry reached a value of 1.3 billion by 2019 with projected growth of 6.8% this year. Food trailers have always been around, but their popularity grew massively in the late 2000’s when business owners began recognizing the versatility and low cost of food trailers vs. food trucks.
